The Matanivusi Surf Resort is surrounded by sandy white beaches and fringing reef providing a calm picturesque beachfront and with some of the best surf in Fiji just across the lagoon from the resort for surfing and snorkeling right at your doorstep. This resort has been specifically built for discerning travelers who want surf, yoga, seclusion, service and satisfaction and most importantly to protect its amazing location. Nadi International Airport is a pleasant two hour drive, passing through sugar farms, the small town of Sigatoka on the biggest river in Fiji, and the Fijian villages along the spectacular Coral Coast where the highway hugs the shoreline revealing picturesque bays and reefs.
Accommodation and Rooms: All accommodation features a large bedroom with king size bed or 2 king singles and ensuite. The accommodation has been designed to achieve the integration of the natural landscape with the living area. There are large amounts of glass and louvres that allow the cool sea breezes to ventilate the units. Ceiling fans, ensuite bathrooms and a large deck area are features that make the simple design a pleasure to stay in and only a few steps from the ocean. The accommodation bures are tucked between a creek at the rear of the building and coconut palms, exotic flowers and plants at the front, then the beach. If you are there at the right time you will be able to pluck a ripe paw paw from the tree near your bure. A large variety of fruit trees are scattered around the resort. Each bure is divided into 2 separate accommodation areas with their own ensuite. The rooms are tastefully furnished with a king size bed (or 2 king singles), mosquito net for that tropical feel, a coffee table and relaxing chairs. All rooms are screened. The large deck and vast expanses of glass gives each unit breathtaking views of the beach and rainforest, even from the toilet! The bures are such that with fellow mates you can open the adjoining doors and socialise or they can be locked off – it’s up to you.
Food and Dining:
A high priority is placed on the quality of food and service at the resort. Enjoy 3 cooked meals a day by our superb on site chef, plus all day coffee and tea (special dietary needs are catered for); Matanivusi’s restaurant offers an eclectic fusion of Fijian, Indian and contemporary dishes using only the freshest ingredients. They strive at being a sustainable restaurant by using fruits grown from around the property depending on the season, vegetables cultivated in the local villages and fresh Yellowfin Tuna and Mahi Mahi from the daily catches brought in at Suva harbor. The Restaurant and Bar has been designed with the intention of maximising the view of the coral fringed lagoon, whether you are enjoying fresh Trevalley cooked in coconut cream or a Matanivusi Mai Tai. The ‘Dua Tali’ Bar (the ‘One Moore Bar’ – named in honor of a great friend – Marcus Moore) is a full service bar with a wide variety of tropical concoctions for your delight. There is a fully stocked bar in the restaurant which overlooks the swimming pool and out to the lagoon and surf breaks.
What to bring:
Pack for 6 nights. Fiji has a tropical & humid climate. Heavy rainfall can be expected during the wet season (December – April). A year round average of about 30’C (85’F) during the day and 25’C (75’F) at night. During winter (June to Sept) it can sometimes get cool enough for long pants and a long sleeve sweater. Think passport/visa, swimwear, sarongs, tanning lotion, yoga gear, trainers, rashvest or wetsuit top, something warm to wear at night, a wide brimmed hat, chapstick, moroccan oil etc. All that aside, an open heart and a willingness to be open to the possibilities of what comes with clean diet and delving into the layers of yoga and water adventure with a group of like minded individuals. We recommend you exchange some money prior to coming to Fiji. It is recommended that you purchase travel insurance – just in case! We encourage all guests to practice energy conservation so the resort does not provide hair dryers. However, you are welcome to bring your own to use at the resort.

You will also have time to enjoy the cultural and ocean surroundings throughout the week. If you’re looking for a 5 star, cultural yoga escape this may just be it. Don't be surprised if you come away transformed.
Snorkeling We have local trips out to some of the most magnificent coral reefs fringing our lagoon, where you will find a wide array of parrot fish, sea turtles, spotted eagle rays, clown fish, sea anemones and large amount of soft and hard corals. Guests can snorkel inside the lagoon around the coral bombies or outside the fringing reef along the drop-offs.
Stand up paddle and kayaks: Take a nice morning cruise around the calm lagoon or an evening paddle to watch the sunset from the water. The paddle boards are 11ft in length so they are easy for everyone to ride. Also a fantastic way to view the aquarium below.
Surfing: Surfing to the 5 uncrowded local breaks & world renowned Frigates Passage are part of daily life at Matanivusi. The non surfers are always welcome to go out with the surfers and snorkel, or else they can be taken out separately to snorkel or fish. There is surf year around in Fiji, but there are two different surf seasons. One is from April to October when the low pressure systems in the Southern Hemisphere produce consistent ground swells which can get up to 8-10’ft. The summer season from December to April and is associated with shorter duration swells, 1-3 days. During this time though the conditions could be called ‘tropical’ as it is glassy or light winds all day and hot with afternoon showers. This is the time when our local breaks really begin to fire up. During the winter season, the SE trade winds are predominant and they blow offshore at Pipe and Frigates for up to a week at a time. There is usually a few days of calm winds between the weather patterns so we can get to surf the other local breaks if the swell is small enough. Never surfed before? Lets learn together, beginner lessons available, and experience the exhilaration of standing up on your first wave in paradise.
Something else? You could relax by the pool, have a massage, try a new cocktail, go beachcombing, relax, read, go shopping (Suva or Sigatoka), plantation walks and walks to our amazing lookout. There’s lots or nothing, again it’s up to you! Believe me, you won’t feel left out! The staff all come from the local village and the opportunity to absorb Fijian culture and their way off life is always available – try Kava with the locals or hear the beautiful singing at the church service – you will see the real Fiji! Matanivusi Surf Resort is 3 kilometers past the village of Vunaniu. The resort staff come from the village and are very happy to invite you to their village for a kava session. If you do go to the village, be aware that there are cultural traditions that must be observed. Resort staff will be happy to explain these to you. Take a guided trip up to Korolevu where we will take you to a tropical waterfall hidden away in the lush jungle. The plantation walk will give you a better understanding of the traditional village subsistence living and medicinal plants.
