FAQ's
  • How Do I Attend for Live Streamed Classes
Sign up to our membership Download Zoom Book Into Class 15 Minutes Prior Wait for an email 10 minutes prior with access (check junk mail) Click the link in email and this will connect you to the live class For best audio visual experience, use computer/laptop, seperate speakers
  • I am based in Melbourne. Can I come into studio for classes?
We are a Hybrid yoga studio meaning we run in-studio classes (COVID-19 restrictions pending) and Virtual Classes via Live Stream/Zoom. Our full class schedule is available in both of these formats and is membership only (we do not offer drop in classes or Intro Offers). So please feel free to join us in any of these formats.
  • What is Power Vinyasa Yoga?
At MOVE we practise Power Vinyasa, an energetic and dynamic style of yoga usually practised in a heated room, which has become popular in Western society over the past few years. Its challenging postures focus on a balance of strength and flexibility. Power Vinyasa links movement to the breath, producing a cardiovascular type of exercise which is unlike any exercise out there! Often sequences of the same postures are repeated in order for the student to get familiar with them and to find a rhythm to their practice. That said, many love the practice because of its diversity, so be prepared to be challenged.
  • I have never tried power yoga before. Will I be able to keep up?
Yes! We make yoga accessible to everyone. As you are starting out with yoga it is best that you choose a spot in the middle/back of the room or if online, turn your camera on so that we can see and adjust you. All members have access to a complimentary 1:1 private session where one of our coaches can check and adjust your alignment and break down some of our basic poses like Downward Dog, High Plank, Low Plank, Upward Dog and the Warrior poses. Please try and come to as many classes and styles as possible and aim to come at least 3 times a week. It takes a month of regular practise to get familiar with the poses in yoga, but you will feel a difference even after your first few days.
  • I currently workout at the Gym. Will I get a workout from Yoga?
Yes! The myth that yoga is a nice relaxing stretch without any strength is starting to disperse in Australia. The yoga industry is starting to get traction, as practitioners have increased cardiovascular fitness, deeper lung volume through breath awareness, removal of toxins from the body from internal and external heat and muscular strength. Who doesn’t love to sweat? The endorphins that flow after a yoga class make you feel amazing, and your skin glows as toxins are released through the pores.
  • It's my first time to yoga. How should I prepare?
Firstly, make sure you have created your account online. When you arrive (online or in-studio) for your first visit, allow yourself 10 or 15 minutes prior to class to check in and familiarise yourself with the space and our staff. If possible, don’t have anything to eat 1 ½ hours before class and arrive well hydrated. We provide complimentary mats and sweat towels and we clean the mats for you after class. All you need to bring is your gym gear.
  • How Do I Sign Up Online
Welcome! The first thing you need to do is create a MOVE account with Mind Body Online via our website. This will only take a couple of minutes. Then register for classes and purchause your access pass online. Check your email as you will receive a welcome email with instructions on how to create a password. Then download our APP and log in with your username (email address) and password and book online.
  • What Should I Bring To Class (in studio only)
Suitable clothing is tight-fitting exercise clothes in which you can sweat (think leggings, singlets and crop tops; shorts for the guys). Bare feet are required for all yoga classes. We provide mats, which will be set up, ready for you to walk in and choose your position. Bring your own water, or alternatively, you can purchase water from reception. Shower towels are available to rent, and shampoo, conditioner, soap, hairdryers and straighteners are all provided.
  • What Are The Benefits Of Yoga?
Increased cardiovascular fitness and lung volume through Vinyasa flow movement Burning between 400 and 600 calories while sweating out toxins Increased muscular strength, tone and proprioception Increased muscular length and flexibility Improved postural awareness and proprioception Improved digestive system through internal massage of organs Increased sense of peace, calm, clarity and grounding throughout your day Weight normalisation with increased mindfulness towards diet and nutrition Increased removal of toxins from the body Increased body–mind awareness Increased creativity and ability to move with the flow of life, rather than against it Improved sexual function
  • How Often Should I Practise Yoga?
A regular yoga practice requires discipline, commitment and consistency. We recommend a practice of between 3 to 6 times a week, which will start to produce results quickly.
  • What If I Have An Injury?
The first thing you need to do is let us know about the injury before your practice. Our teachers are experts in their field and have strong anatomy knowledge and the ability to modify the practice and give different variations for students with injury. The benefits of a safe and regular yoga practice on healing old injuries are strong, as we start to work into all areas of the muscles, skeletal alignment and facial tissue. That said, it is important to ensure you seek appropriate medical advice prior to commencing a yoga practice if you are recovering from an injury.
  • I Am Pregant. Can I Practise?
Generally, our classes are not designed for pregnant women. We do offer Yin Classes which are less intensive, however they are targetted to stress the connective tissue so it is important to modify your practise and not push too deepr into the tissues. Power Vinyasa increases your heart rate during your practice and it can be unsafe to practise during pregnancy. It is important to consult your medical practitioner prior to practising during pregnancy. Our classes can be busy and often the instructor is not able to get around to all students to help modify their practice so it is important to keep this in mind.
  • How Old Do I Have To Be To Practise Yoga?
Fourteen years of age is our minimum age to practice yoga; however, all students under the age of 17 must be accompanied by their parent or guardian. All students can take advantage of our concession prices, which can only be purchased in-studio (not online).
  • Can I Claim Yoga Classes on my Health Insurance?
Unfortunately, we are unable to facilitate private health insurance claims for your yoga classes at MOVE. Whilst we would love to be able to do this, this is not possible as claims are made against the individual instructor as opposed to the studio. For you to make a claim, an instructor would be required to be a member of Yoga Australia, which is stipulated by the health insurance providers. However, because this membership is not mandatory, many instructors (including some at MOVE) do not have a membership. Please note that membership to Yoga Australia does not reflect on the certification or capabilities of the individual instructor. If you would like more information regarding this, please feel free to discuss with us in studio.
